On Books

Ever since I can remember (definitely by the time I was 5 years old), I have always been reading at least a book a week (and in school and college more like a book a day)

Hence, it never occurred to me that coming from a family of what was then modest (though never poor) means, I could not travel the world like some people did. My first international trip was as an exchange student when I was at IIMA.

It did not really matter to me that coming from a business family, I did not really have many people to look up to guide me in pursuit of academic excellence. I went to a very poor college as I never had great grades in high school.

I somehow always found a book that had an answer for me. That’s the great thing about reading: you can create your own travels, your own heroes and even your won idols when life may not have been kind enough to give it to you.

We are not fixed or static. All of us evolve over time. For me, books have always been one of the prime catalysts of this evolution. As my son is 5 now, reading is also one of the best gifts I have given to him.
